In 2000, I had a few polyps removed from my uterus and was told by my OB-GYN that, when the time came, I may have trouble conceiving a child due to the left over scarring.

I didn’t think much of it at the time, but six year later, my husband and I were ready to start our family and I knew I had three strikes against me before we even started. The scarring, the fact that I had never been pregnant before and the good ol’ age factor - I was 40.

After trying, on our own for some months with no success, I decided to take some action on my part and try stacking some odds in my favor before trying the long, painful and very expensive route of in-vitro fertilization. I had heard about how acupuncture could help with conception and decided to give it a try. Thank goodness I did.

I met with Kathleen and immediately felt I had made the right choice. On the first visit we spent a lot of time talking about my medical history (and a very storied past it is), and about what acupuncture could do to help my situation.

I was a bit concerned about the actual 'needle' part of acupuncture, but figured it was much less intrusive than in-vitro. At the first visit, I laid on the bed as Kathleen began placing the needles strategically about my body (which I barely felt at all). After about ten minutes, I could actually feel the blood flowing through my body. It was an amazing feeling - peaceful and relaxing, yet very exciting because I felt a definite change in my body.

Kathleen provided me with some Omega supplements and I began charting my morning basal body temperature in addition to the weekly/twice weekly acupuncture sessions. A little over a month and a half later, I took my very first home pregnancy test. It was positive. I’m now just two weeks from our son’s due date and couldn’t be happier.

While we may never be able to point to the acupuncture as the main reason for our conception, I definitely put a great deal of belief that it was the part of the equation that my body needed to be able to conceive our child.
